Position Title Director of Esports

Length of Assignment Fiscal Year - FT Contract
The Director of Esports will oversee and lead the creation, coaching and operation of the Ball State Varsity Esports team, the collegiate conference composed of the Mid-American Conference institutions, and national organizations such as TESPA and NACE, serve as the Head Coach of the Varsity Esports team and be responsible for the BSU Varsity Esports team, venue, activities and budget. The Director will also oversee BSU and community activities related to Esports.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Sports Administration, Game Design, Computer Sciences or related field from an accredited institution.
Two of years of experience managing competitive computer gaming. Two years of experience managing budgets and facilities.
Ability to develop and pursue the vision, manage the business components, and develop plans to meet goals across all areas of the program.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to effectively develop and manage teams.
Ability to successfully navigate complex networks of relationships, develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff personnel, academic personnel, and officials of external agencies and the general public.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively. Effective marketing skills. Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines and work on various projects and programs concurrently. Ability to research, collect and analyze data.
Commitment to diversity and multicultural programs and student development theory and ability to work with a high level of cultural competence and sensitivity.
Knowledge of and familiarity with computer applications, such as ggLeap, Discord, online gaming sites – Battle.net, and Steam, Microsoft Office, data management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Internet, email, etc.

Master’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Sports Administration, Game Design or a related field from an accredited institution.

Duties & Responsibilities
Recruit players for the team through campus, community, and high school outreach; ensure Esports athletes have access to campus services including financial aid, housing, academic and campus support services and wellness services manage the team’s travel needs as needed
Build and strengthen corporate relationships with endemic and non-endemic companies locally and globally.
Develop, plan, implement, evaluate and expand programs and services reflective of an increasingly diverse student population.
Provide overall direction for students participating in Esports programs and clubs through civic and community engagement, leadership development, diversity and global consciousness, and fiscal responsibilities.
Manage an Esports venue on campus, by overseeing facility operations of 25+ gaming PCs, console systems, broadcasting facility, and arena displays and lighting. The facility will operate as a classroom, a recreation space, and practice facility for the Varsity Esports team.
Develop and execute events and programs to bring business to the arena including but not limited to; creating intramural tournaments, events for staff and faculty, programs for non-students, summer camps and Ball State Esports club events.
Develop and deliver curriculum around Esports to instruct students across campus. Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to identify opportunities for curricula and research in the areas of video gaming and Esports.
As assigned, hire, supervise, and review student workers and graduate assistants.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
